The Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) department at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology is one of the most dynamic and high-performing departments of the institute. Established in the academic year 2023–24 with an intake of 180 students, the program addresses the growing demand for professionals in AI-driven technologies and continues to attract talented students with its strong academic foundation and industry-oriented approach.
The curriculum is designed to build core computing knowledge while covering a broad range of emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, IoT, Big Data, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Robotics. The department follows an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, ensuring a balanced approach through conceptual learning, practical implementation, and continuous assessment.
Supported by a team of experienced faculty, the department offers modern laboratories, advanced computing resources, and a technology-enabled environment. Students are encouraged to engage in project-based learning to enhance problem-solving and innovation skills. The department also promotes industry interaction through associations with Computer Society of India (CSI), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), WE HUB, and ICT Academy, along with programs such as Cyient EDP, Infosys UI Developer, Learnathon, IBM SkillsBuild AI, Celonis, and ServiceNow AI.
Through collaborations with CISCO , TASK, Microsoft Center of Excellence, Eduskills, Google Developer Groups, and Google Cloud, students gain exposure to workshops, internships, certifications, and real-time projects. Along with continuous evaluation and mentoring, the department emphasizes overall development through technical, cultural, and extracurricular activities, preparing students for successful careers in leading technology organizations.

Dr. T. Praveen Kumar is an accomplished academician and researcher serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of CSE (AI & ML) at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTU Hyderabad, along with an M.Tech in Software Engineering and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and has over 20 years of teaching and research experience. His areas of expertise include Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Data Science and Multimodal Sentiment Analysis.
Dr. T. Praveen Kumar has made significant research contributions with numerous publications in reputed international journals and conferences, focusing on deep learning, transformer models, and AI-driven applications. He also holds multiple patents in emerging technologies such as AI-based systems and intelligent automation.
In addition to teaching, he actively contributes to academic administration and curriculum development as a Board of Studies member and coordinator for various institutional initiatives. He is associated with professional bodies like IEEE, CSI, and ISTE.
