The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Methodist College of Engineering & Technology was established in 2008 with an initial intake of 60 students, which was expanded to 120 in 2010 in response to the growing demand for high-quality technical education. Over the years, the department has evolved into a vibrant academic hub with 21 committed faculty members, 5 experienced technical staff, and nearly maintaining an excellent student'–faculty ratio of 15:1.
The academic strength of the department lies in its highly qualified and experienced faculty team, which includes 6 Ph.D. holders and 9 faculty members currently pursuing their Ph.D.s from prestigious institutions, including NIT Warangal. Among the Ph.D. holders, four are senior professors with over 30 years of teaching experience each, bringing deep academic and research expertise in specialized areas such as Microwave Communications, Signal Processing, Communication Systems, and VLSI Design. Notably, Dr. John William Carey, one of our distinguished faculty, was honored with the President's Award in 2023 for his outstanding contributions to innovation and research.
Further strengthening its research credentials, the department is currently engaged in a research consultancy project worth Rs.15 lakhs in collaboration with Light Speed Photonics, Singapore, focusing on advanced photonic communication technologies. This project reflects the department's growing engagement with global research and industry collaborations.
The department has also been selected under the prestigious Chip to Startup (C2S) Programme, through which EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools have been made available via the ChipIN Centre at C-DAC Bangalore, thanks to proactive departmental efforts. These tools are essential for VLSI and Embedded Systems simulations, aligning academic training with industry standards and enhancing students' preparedness for real-world engineering challenges.
The undergraduate B.E. program in Electronics and Communication Engineering is designed under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), offering students flexibility to pursue core courses, professional and open electives, minor specializations, and skill enhancement modules. The curriculum encourages a student-centric approach, with evaluations based on a credit system that supports personalized learning paths and continuous improvement.
Students are exposed to a well-rounded academic structure covering both fundamental and advanced topics such as:
To stay ahead in the rapidly evolving technological landscape, the department has incorporated emerging technologies into the curriculum, including:
In addition, the department has established a Center of Excellence in Industrial IoT, fostering innovation and interdisciplinary research. This center supports in-house project development in forward-looking areas such as Autonomous Ground Electrical Vehicles, Drones, AI-enabled IoT systems, and Advanced Embedded Applications.
The department provides state-of-the-art laboratory facilities to facilitate experiential learning and project-based outcomes. Students are encouraged to build and present minor and major projects through guided mentorship. Regular expert lectures, value-added courses, technical workshops, industry-led training, and project exhibitions provide an enriching ecosystem for professional growth.
Beyond academics, the department places a strong emphasis on co-curricular and extracurricular engagement. Students are encouraged to actively participate in:
To nurture leadership and holistic development, students are also involved in sports, cultural activities, community outreach, and student-led initiatives, helping them build essential communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
To foster a culture of expression and innovation, the department publishes a monthly magazine titled PEACE (Power of Electronics & Communication Engineering), featuring both technical content and creative works from faculty and students alike.
At Methodist College of Engineering & Technology, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is committed to cultivating technically competent, research-oriented, and socially responsible engineers who are well-equipped to excel in today's dynamic and technology-driven world.
