Academic Regulations for B.E. with Minor Program
The first batch of students admitted under Autonomy will enter their V Semester during the Academic Year 2023-24. In line with AICTE guidelines, the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) with Minor program is designed to focus on fundamental principles of multiple engineering disciplines, critical and analytical thinking, and a distinctive approach to interdisciplinary problems.
1. Objectives
The key objectives of the B.E. with Minor program are:
- To provide opportunities for students to explore interdisciplinary areas alongside their primary branch, expanding their domain knowledge.
- To enhance employability by offering skills in interdisciplinary engineering areas.
- To enable students to pursue higher studies in interdisciplinary fields in addition to their core branch.
- To offer knowledge in emerging technologies and thrust areas of engineering.
2. Proposed Academic Regulations for B.E. Degree with Minor Programs
- Students must earn an additional 18 credits for the Minor degree, distributed across V, VI, and VII Semesters, as finalized by the respective Boards of Studies (BOS).
- These credits are earned through courses offered by the host department or via MOOCs.
- Credits from the Minor program cannot be transferred to the regular B.E. degree or vice versa.
- Weekly instruction hours, evaluations, and grading align with the regular 4-year B.E. program.
- Students can graduate with a Minor by fulfilling requirements for both the regular B.E. and Minor programs.
- Students must earn 18 credits for the Minor by the time they complete the B.E. program to receive the B.E. with Minor degree; otherwise, only the B.E. degree is awarded.
-
For MOOCs courses:
- Courses require prior BOS approval, considering the institute, syllabus, credits, duration, and evaluation mode.
- MOOCs courses must have credits equal to or greater than those in the approved Minor course structure.
- Only Pass-grade or above will be considered for Minor program grades.
- Students bear any MOOCs course expenses.
- Opting for a Minor program is at the student’s discretion.
- Students may withdraw from the Minor program at any time, earning only the B.E. degree upon completing prescribed credits.
- Students may choose only one Minor program alongside their B.E. degree.
- Students pursuing B.E. Honors are ineligible for the Minor program and vice versa.
- Students in their V Semester meeting eligibility criteria may register for the Minor program.
- Institutes will prepare timetables for Minor courses to avoid conflicts with other courses.
3. Eligibility Criteria for Registering for Minor Courses
- Students in V Semester with no active backlogs up to IV Semester may opt for the Minor program.
- Prior approval from the mentor and Head of the Department is mandatory before V Semester begins.
4. Registration for Courses in the Minor Program
- Students must register for Minor courses at the start of each semester before classes begin.
- Courses must be chosen from the BOS-approved Minor course list and should not overlap with regular B.E. courses. Faculty mentor advice is recommended.
- A maximum of two courses (three if including a lab) may be taken per semester alongside regular courses.
- Registration fees are determined by college norms and approved by the Governing Body.
