About the IDEA Lab

The AICTE-IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation & Application) Lab at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology is designed to inspire students to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on training, learning by doing, and product visualization. This focused unit molds graduates to be innovative, creative, and equipped with 21st-century skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, design thinking, collaboration, communication, and lifelong learning.

The IDEA Lab encourages students and faculty to "engage, explore, experience, express, and excel," meeting the demands of next-generation learning. It serves as a platform for faculty to foster multidisciplinary learning and research, encouraging innovative projects and internships.

With 24/7 access to state-of-the-art facilities, the IDEA Lab enables students and faculty to transform ideas into prototypes, fostering practical experience and skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and design thinking. The lab supports both novel and incremental innovations, ensuring graduates are prepared for creative and imaginative contributions in their workplaces.

The ultimate goal is to revolutionize engineering education by introducing all students to the lab’s facilities, conducting training sessions, facilitating innovative projects, and providing access to online learning resources.

Major Objectives

  • Cultivate a vibrant, interdisciplinary community that breaks down departmental silos, connecting diverse minds to solve complex, real-world problems and guide projects from prototype to product.
  • Bridge the gap between academia and industry by creating a seamless pathway that takes student innovations from prototype to product, fostering entrepreneurship and real-world impact.

Performance & Recognition

Following AICTE guidelines, Methodist College adheres to the Code of Conduct for the IDEA Lab. The lab’s performance is tracked on 15–20 parameters, with data uploaded fortnightly, weekly, or monthly as per AICTE’s decision. Points are scored for each performance metric, contributing to the lab’s overall impact. This performance is displayed on the AICTE official website and the national IDEA Lab Leaderboard, showcasing week-by-week and overall rankings. This enhances the visibility of Methodist College and builds trust and recognition among stakeholders.
